About VAT Unit

Our Mission, History, and Organizational Structure

Our Mission and Purpose

The Value Added Tax (VAT) Unit of the University of Cross River State was established to serve as the central administrative body responsible for managing all aspects of value-added tax compliance and administration within the university. Our primary mission is to ensure that the institution maintains full compliance with Nigerian tax legislation while supporting the university's academic and operational objectives through efficient financial management.

We operate with a commitment to transparency, accuracy, and professionalism in all our dealings. The unit serves as a bridge between the university community and tax regulatory authorities, facilitating smooth communication and ensuring that all tax-related matters are handled promptly and correctly. Our work directly contributes to the university's reputation as a responsible and compliant institution within Nigeria's higher education sector.

Historical Background

The VAT Unit was formally established as part of the university's administrative restructuring initiative, recognizing the growing complexity of tax compliance requirements for educational institutions in Nigeria. As the university expanded its operations, research activities, and infrastructure development, the need for dedicated tax administration became increasingly apparent.

Over the years, the unit has evolved to meet changing regulatory requirements and has developed comprehensive systems for managing tax obligations. We have built strong working relationships with the Federal Inland Revenue Service and other relevant authorities, ensuring that the university remains in good standing with all tax-related requirements.

Organizational Structure

The VAT Unit operates under the direct supervision of the Director of Finance, who reports to the Vice-Chancellor's office. This organizational placement ensures that tax administration is integrated into the university's broader financial governance framework. The unit works closely with various departments including procurement, accounts, and academic units to ensure comprehensive compliance across all university operations.

Our team consists of qualified professionals with expertise in tax administration, accounting, and financial management. Staff members regularly participate in professional development programs to stay current with changes in tax legislation and best practices in financial administration. This commitment to continuous learning ensures that the unit provides accurate and up-to-date guidance to the university community.

Our Role in University Operations
